Do NOT ask a photographer for free photos, or to work for free.
"To all of those “potential” clients: Photography is a business.....it is how a photographer makes a living.
Photographers have bills just like you do, we pay taxes, we have business expenses...........just like any other place you might frequent/shop.
Do you walk into your hairdresser or barber and ask them to work for less than what they are asking for?
Do you go to the gas station and haggle over the price? I know you most certainly do not, nor would they even do a discounton your price becuase you asked them too.
Would you go to work and expect your boss to say, “I really like the work you’re doing, but I’m not going to pay you. However, I am going to tell everyone how good a job you do”?
I don’t think you would, you would probably quit right than and there.
You wouldn’t work for free, so why would you expect any photographer to?
You are not doing a photographer a favor by "stealing" their time and “telling your friends how good the photographer's work was", that will never bring a photographer any business that is worth their time.
If you value the work we do, there is only one way to compensate us, that is to pay us for our profession."
I work for a living providing my time shooting photos, and than editing them so the images I captured look the best they can.
This is my job, it is not hobby, it is how I support myself, as does any other photographer.
I try to offer fair prices, and I do discount my services for first time clients, and if you are regualr client whom refers me work, I would be willing to discount your next photo shoot session if your referral brings me an actual job. That is more than most photographers will do.
I want to be your photographer, and I want to be fair, and in return you need to be fair as well, by respecting my time and prices for my services.
I look forward to being you photographer and capturing your moments in time with my lens.
